My recent paintings celebrate the natural phenomena of everyday life and the power of nature and light to heal. I use photographs that I’ve taken while on walks to inspire dynamic compositions, energizing color combinations, and experiments in paint application. As I meditate on the memory and feeling of awe associated with each photograph, I am reminded of reasons to be grateful and to be present.
I try to channel my oft-anxious energy in the studio, utilizing the fast-drying nature of acrylic paint to work quickly. However, the paint can have a mind of its own while being dripped into and pulled along areas of wet canvas; this process leaves room for spontaneity and forces me to slow down and look, respond. I hope my work encourages the viewer in the same way or at least causes them to pause for just a moment.
