Heather Carroll

Heather Carroll is a visual artist based in Watertown, MA. Her current mixed media work explores themes of motherhood, memory, and materiality through the use of found photographs, hardware, staples, vegetable netting, thread, and other everyday objects. This shift in her practice began with the birth of her daughter, Ahmie, whose presence disrupted the structured, fiber-based processes Heather had followed for nearly a decade. In response, she embraced a more intuitive, collaborative approach—creating abstract acrylic paintings with her infant daughter and later deconstructing them into layered, textured compositions.

These works reflect the beauty and chaos of domestic life, blending spontaneity with intention, and highlighting the imperfections that come with both parenting and art-making. Heather’s eye for detail was shaped early on while working in her grandfather’s jewelry store on Long Island, an experience that continues to inform her appreciation for craftsmanship, texture and the unexpected.
