We all need Art; both as artists and as consumer of art. I love making art, and I am enriched to see other people’s art.
I don’t really know why I make art, or why anyone does for that matter; I suppose it’s to make order out of all the beauty, chaos, and uncertainty of the world coming at us, as relentless now as the waves of the ocean. Making art seems the very definition of mindfulness practice: focusing one’s awareness on the present moment.
In 2012 I began a series of Don Quixote paintings, done in a Cubist style. Those paintings and drawings developed into a sculpture series of Cubist Don Quixotes and Surrealist horses. Made primarily of wood, wax, and paint, they also contain bits of string, wire, plaster and fabric. I have have since begun sculpting elephants and bison. Portrait painting has my attention these days. I find myself fascinated with the human face as a repository of emotions.
